न चैतद्विद्मः कतरन्नो गरीयो
यद्वा जयेम यदि वा नो जयेयुः ।
यानेव हत्वा न जिजीविषामः
तेऽवस्थिताः प्रमुखे धार्तराष्ट्राः ॥ ६ ॥
यद्वा जयेम यदि वा नो जयेयुः ।
यानेव हत्वा न जिजीविषामः
तेऽवस्थिताः प्रमुखे धार्तराष्ट्राः ॥ ६ ॥
na caitadvidmaḥ kataranno garīyo
yadvā jayema yadi vā no jayeyuḥ .
yāneva hatvā na jijīviṣāmaḥ
te’vasthitāḥ pramukhe dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ .. 6 ..
And we know not which * is the better alternative for us; nor do we know whether we shall conquer them or they will conquer us. Even the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, after killing whom we do not wish to live, stand arrayed against us.
Which of the two—living upon alms without slaying others, or fighting the enemy which is our duty.—(A)
