Chapter 9 - Verse 33

The Yoga of Devotion.

किं पुनर्ब्राह्मणाः पुण्या भक्ता राजर्षयस्तथा ।
अनित्यमसुखं लोकमिमं प्राप्य भजस्व माम् ॥ ३३ ॥

kiṃ punarbrāhmaṇāḥ puṇyā bhaktā rājarṣayastathā .
anityamasukhaṃ lokamimaṃ prāpya bhajasva mām .. 33 ..


How much more then the holy brâhmanas and devoted royal saints! Having reached this transient joyless world, do thou worship Me.

Holy: of pure birth. This world: the world of man, human birth* which is the means of attaining spiritual aspirations (purushartha), and which is very hard to attain.

As non-human bodies such as those of animals are not fit for a life of devotion to the Lord, those who have attained to human birth should lead a life of devotion to the lord:
